Abstract: Water quality monitoring plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of drinking water, industrial water systems, aquaculture environments, and environmental resources. Conventional monitoring systems primarily depend on direct sensor measurements of parameters such as pH and temperature. However, sensor readings are often affected by noise, drift, calibration errors, aging effects, and environmental disturbances, resulting in inaccurate measurements and unreliable monitoring outcomes. Most existing systems focus only on data collection and threshold-based alerts, making it difficult to distinguish actual water quality variations from sensor faults and leading to false alarms or missed detections. Therefore, there is a need for an intelligent and cost-effective water quality monitoring system capable of continuously validating sensor reliability while providing real-time access to monitoring information. The proposed system integrates Kalman filtering for noise reduction, residual analysis and Chi-Square testing for fault detection, and cross-validation techniques for improved fault verification. Sensor measurements acquired through an ESP32-based monitoring unit are transmitted to a backend database and made available through a web-based dashboard for real-time visualization, historical analysis, and fault alert management. This approach improves monitoring accuracy, enhances fault detection reliability, and supports informed decision-making in water quality management applications.
