Abstract: ABSTRACT COST-OPTIMIZED INTELLIGENT TRACTION INVERTER SYSTEM FOR BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR DRIVEN MOBILITY DEVICES The present disclosure relates to a cost-optimized intelligent traction inverter system (100) for driving a brushless DC motor (150) in mobility assistance devices such as electric wheelchairs and scooters. The system comprises a DC power source (110), a DC-link capacitor (120), a three-phase voltage source inverter (130) employing six low- cost N-channel power MOSFET switching devices (131-136), a gate driver circuit (140), a set of Hall-effect position sensors (160), and a microcontroller-based control unit (170). The control unit implements an Improved Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control (IFTSMC) law that computes a nonlinear sliding surface from speed-tracking error, its derivative and an integral term to modulate a pulse-width-modulated duty cycle in real time. The system provides finite-time convergence, minimal steady- state error, chatter-free disturbance rejection and direct compatibility with a 24V battery, thereby delivering robust, smooth and affordable speed regulation on uneven terrain.
