MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621062967 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay on May 18, 2026, for Copper-Based Molecular Catalyst For Ammonia Oxidation And Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Arnab Dutta; and Chandan Das.

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relates to copper-based molecular catalyst for ammonia oxidation and methods for preparing the same. The catalyst, according to embodiments herein includes copper (Cu) in the form of a coordination sphere complexed with at least one pyridyl hydrazone ligand or substituted derivatives thereof. The catalyst, according to embodiments herei has a Cu-to-ligand molar ratio ranging from 1:1 to 1:2. Embodiments herein further provide copper-based molecular catalysts represented by a Formula (I) and (II). The disclosed catalysts enable efficient homogeneous ammonia oxidation and offer potential for application in ammonia-based fuel cells for carbon-free energy conversion. Embodiments herein further provide a method for preparing the copper-based molecular catalyst. FIG. 1
