Inventors include Prof. Dr. Parveen Kumar Goyal; Ms. Suman Khurana; and Dr. Preeti Garg.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a controlled release herbal composition for targeted delivery of bioactive phytoconstituents. The composition comprises at least one herbal extract or plant-derived bioactive constituent, a controlled release carrier matrix, a release modifier, and a stabilizing agent. The carrier matrix may include natural or pharmaceutically acceptable polymers such as pullulan, pectin, chitosan, alginate, guar gum, xanthan gum, cellulose derivatives, or combinations thereof. The composition is configured to protect phytoconstituents from premature degradation and to provide sustained, delayed, pH-responsive, mucoadhesive, enzyme- responsive, or site-specific release at a selected physiological target site. The composition may be formulated as beads, tablets, capsules, films, patches, hydrogels, microspheres, nanospheres, granules, or topical dosage forms. The invention improves stability, residence time, bioavailability, therapeutic retention, and controlled delivery of herbal bioactives while reducing burst release and dose frequency. The composition is suitable for oral, topical, mucosal, wound-contact, gastrointestinal, or localized herbal therapy. (Accompanied Figure No. 1)
