Abstract: A method of operating a first vehicle (208) and a second vehicle (210) on a guideway (206) is disclosed. The method comprises determining a first speed of the first vehicle (208) travelling on the guideway (206) and determining a second speed of a second vehicle (210) travelling behind of the first vehicle (208) on the guideway (206). Further, a minimum safe stopping distance is calculated based on the determined first and second speed, wherein the minimum safe stopping distance is a minimum distance which the second vehicle (210) needs travel before coming to rest without colliding with the first vehicle (208) when the first vehicle (208) has come to a halt on the guideway. Thereafter, a distance between the second vehicle (210) and the first vehicle (208) is detected. The method further comprises comparing the detected distance and the minimum safe stopping distance and modifying the second speed based on the comparison.
