MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611092246 A) filed by Delhi Technological University on July 29, 2026, for Control System And Method For Controlling Movement Of A Wheelchair.

Inventors include Nagesh, Doddalahally Shivalingaiah; and Jafar, Mohd Rizwan.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The disclosed control system (100) for controlling movement of a wheelchair, includes at least one electromyographic (EMG) sensing module (102) configured to acquire EMG signals from one or more muscles in a periocular region of a user, a signal conditioning module (104) configured to amplify, filter, and digitize the acquired EMG signals, and a processing module (106) configured to pre-process the digitized EMG signals, extract amplitude-related and temporal variation-related features, distinguish voluntary muscle activation from involuntary muscle activity using user-specific decision criteria, and generate wheelchair control commands. A control interface (108) receives the control commands and operates one or more drive motors to perform wheelchair maneuvers. The disclosed system (100) enables reliable, non-invasive, real-time wheelchair navigation with improved command recognition accuracy and reduced false command generation.
