Abstract: The present invention obtains a control device and a control method that can both provide rider assistive ability and curtail an increase in processing load. When it is determined that group travel is being performed in which a plurality of saddle-ride vehicles (200), including a host vehicle (100), form a plurality of vehicle lines (VL1, VL2) and travel as a group, an execution unit of the control device executes a second rider assistance operation that is different from a first rider assistance operation to be executed when it is determined that group travel is not being performed. The execution unit executes the second rider assistance operation on the basis of partial surrounding environment information, which is information included in surrounding environment information and which pertains to an objective range (O) that is a portion of a detection range (R) of a surrounding environment detection device (11). The objective range (O) is changed by the execution unit (22).
