The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to ophthalmic lenses fabricated from water hyacinth-derived cellulose hydrogels and biopolymer composites for soft contact lenses and foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs). Purified cellulose is regenerated and cross-linked to produce transparent, biocompatible materials with suitable optical and mechanical properties. For contact lenses, hydrogel formulations are optimized by controlling water content, network density, and lens thickness to achieve targeted oxygen transmissibility (Dk/t), enhanced wettability, and wearer comfort while reducing corneal hypoxia risk. For IOLs, the composite material is engineered for foldability, elastic recovery, and long-term capsular stability, with optional sharp edge designs and hydrophilic or anti-adhesive surface coatings to mitigate posterior capsule opacification. The invention employs sustainable manufacturing processes and biodegradable material pathways, reducing dependence on petrochemical polymers and minimizing environmental impact.
