MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108532 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 10, 2026, for Conductor Structural Signature-Based Electricity Theft Identification System And Method.
Inventors include Dr. Harshita Patel; Vedansh Gupta; and Siddharth Goutam Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: Embodiments herein provide a system (100) for identifying unauthorised electricity theft in a power distribution network (120). The system (100) acquires mechanical and electrical telemetry associated with monitored conductor segments (130), generates a Conductor Structural Signature Vector (CSSV), and continuously updates a Conductor Structural Signature Surface (CSSS) representing normal structural behaviour. A localized structural deviation is analyzed using an artificial intelligence model (112) based on structural, electrical, and temporal correlations to distinguish an unauthorised electrical connection from an environmental or operational disturbance. The system (100) determines a Structural Stability Score, a Disturbance Confidence Score, and a Theft Probability Score, and generates an electricity theft alert (142) and a field inspection recommendation (146) when the Theft Probability Score exceeds a predefined threshold.
