Abstract: The present invention discloses a conductive biochar-based carrier material for advanced biofilm-based biological wastewater treatment and a method for preparing the same. The carrier material comprises activated sugarcane bagasse biochar (ASBC) derived from sugarcane bagasse. The conductive biochar-based carrier inherently facilitates extracellular electron transfer during biological wastewater treatment without requiring conductive polymer coatings, adhesive layers, or encapsulating materials. The carrier material provides a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to conventional plastic- and polymer-based carriers and is applicable in biological wastewater treatment systems employing biofilm-based processes.
