Abstract: The present disclosure provides compositions including a carrier, an element and boron. The carrier is a network of polymers including cellulose and/or starch, the element is bonded to hydroxyl groups of the polymers of the carrier, and boron is bonded directly or indirectly to the carrier. When boron is bonded directly to the carrier, boron is bonded to hydroxyl groups of the carrier. When boron is bonded indirectly to the carrier, boron is bonded to the element. The compositions are added to soil for delivery of boron to plants. Also provided are methods of preparing such compositions.
