Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is a composition and method for preparing a nonlinear optical thin film for optical limiting, the composition (200) comprising zinc acetate dihydrate (202) as a metal-oxide precursor (102) to form a semiconductor matrix with good crystallinity and intrinsic conductivity, lanthanum chloride heptahydrate (204) as a dopant source (104) to incorporate lanthanum ions for defect control and enhanced optical transparency and filtering, aluminium chloride hexahydrate (206) as a microstructure-enhancing agent (106) to regulate crystallization, control grain size, smooth the surface, and ensure uniform thin-film formation, a glass microslide (208) as a film-supporting substrate (108) to provide mechanical support, thermal stability, and a smooth surface for deposition of the thin film; and deionised water (210) as a solvent (110) to dissolve the precursor materials and ensure a homogeneous reaction mixture.
