Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DEWATS) designed for the effective treatment and management of wastewater generated within a college campus. The system comprises a series of treatment units including a screening chamber, sedimentation tank, anaerobic baffled reactor, planted gravel filter and treated water storage tank. Wastewater fiĀ·om hostels, academic buildings, canteens and other campus facilities is collected and treated through physical, biological and natural filtration processes. The sedimentation unit removes settleable solids, while the anaerobic baffled reactor facilitates biological degradation of organic pollutants. The partially treated effluent is further purified through a planted gravel filter containing gravel media and wetland vegetation for nutrient removal and pathogen reduction. The treated water is collected in a storage tank for reuse in irrigation, toilet flushing, gardening and other non-potable applications. The system operates with minimal energy requirements, low maintenance costs and reduced environmental impact. The invention provides a sustainable, cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for wastewater treatment and water conservation in educational institutions .
