Abstract: Single-Inductor Multi-Port Converter for Hybrid Electric Vehicle Energy Management ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a single-inductor multi-port power converter system (100) for electric-vehicle energy management. The system integrates a photovoltaic source (10), battery pack (30), supercapacitor module (40), and EV DC bus/traction load (50) through a shared high-frequency inductor (20) and selectively controlled semiconductor switching devices (11–15). A control unit (60) receives voltage and current measurements from sensing units (61–64) and generates PWM control signals through gate-driver circuitry (70) for regulating energy transfer among the sources, storage elements and DC bus. An MPPT controller (65) coordinates photovoltaic power extraction. The switching arrangement enables transient power support from the supercapacitor module (40), steady-state power supply from the battery pack (30), photovoltaic energy utilization, and regenerative- energy recovery for charging the battery pack (30) and/or supercapacitor module (40). The shared-inductor architecture reduces converter component count and facilitates compact, efficient and dynamically controlled electric-vehicle power management maintaining regulated DC-bus operation under varying conditions.
