Abstract: Embodiments of the present application provide a communication method and a related device, capable of, when optical transceiver options supported by an optical network terminal device match optical transceiver options supported by an optical line terminal device, achieving the objective of registering the optical network terminal device to the optical line terminal device, thus improving the reliability of an uplink optical signal sent by the optical network terminal device to the optical line terminal device. The method comprises: firstly, an optical network terminal device receives a downlink frame from an optical line terminal device, wherein the downlink frame carries first indication information, and the first indication information is used for indicating the performance of a first optical transceiver comprised in the optical line terminal device; secondly, the optical network terminal device sends an uplink frame to the optical line terminal device, wherein the uplink frame carries a device identifier of the optical network terminal device and second indication information, and the second indication information is used for indicating a second optical transceiver option.
