Abstract: The present application provides a communication method and apparatus, which are used for improving the energy-saving effect of a network device. The method comprises: a terminal device receives first information used for indicating a sleep period of a network device, and determines a paging frame on the basis of the sleep period. The terminal device monitors for a paging message on the paging frame. In embodiments of the present application, when determining the paging frame, the terminal device and the network device take the sleep period of the network device into account so that the interval of paging frames is extended, for example, the paging frames can be concentrated within the duration of the network device, thereby reducing the number of times the network device wakes up, and improving the energy-saving effect of the network device.
