MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611080029 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Niet on June 29, 2026, for Coconut Protein Nanoparticles Coated With Eudragit S100 For Ph-Responsive Colon-Targeted Delivery Of Bioactive Compounds.

Abstract: The present invention provides a pH-responsive, colon-targeted nano-delivery system comprising a coconut protein nanoparticle core complexed with a hydrophobic bioactive compound such as curcumin, said core being enclosed within an enteric coating of Eudragit S100. The coconut protein nanoparticle is fabricated from defatted coconut kernel cake by acid-induced heat treatment at pH 2.0 and 85 degrees Celsius for five hours, yielding spherical particles of approximately 80 nanometres with curcumin entrapment efficiency above 95 percent. Surface deposition of Eudragit S100 yields a coated particle of 160 to 220 nanometres that remains insoluble below pH 7.0, limiting gastric release to below 2 percent, and dissolves above pH 7.0 to release the cargo selectively in the distal ileum and colon. The system provides acid stability, enzymatic protection, enhanced bioavailability, and a vegan, food-grade platform for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.
