MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541007217 A) filed by Dow Global Technologies LLC; and Rohm And Haas Company on January 29, 2025, for Coating Composition With Opacifying Pigment Particles And Low Bulk Density Filler.

Inventors include Vinaya Bodas; Girish Anant Bhagwat; and Michael W. Leonard.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present invention is a water-borne composition comprising: a) multistage polymer particles having i) a water-occluded core with structural units of a salt of a carboxylic acid monomer and a nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomer; ii) a polymeric shell having a calculated Tg in the range of from 60 ºC and 120 ºC; and iii) a polymeric binder layer superposing the polymeric shell, which polymeric binder layer has a Tg of not greater than 35 ºC and has structural units of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer; b) an extender with a bulk density in the range of from 0.15 g/cm3 to 0.50 g/cm3; and c) TiO2 at a pigment volume concentration of less than 10; wherein the water-borne composition has a high but below-critical pigment volume concentration. The composition of the present invention provides a reduced loading of TiO2 while preserving excellent scrub and hiding at a high yet below-critical pigment volume concentration.
