The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to a coating (102) for corrosion protection of a metal substrate (110). The coating (102) comprises a phytochemical adsorption layer (104) comprising compounds derived from a neem leaf extract and a pomegranate peel extract adsorbed onto a surface of the metal substrate (110), and a fungal chitosan biopolymer layer (106) derived from a fungal biomass source deposited over the phytochemical adsorption layer (104). The fungal chitosan biopolymer layer (106) retains inhibitor compounds and is cross-linked with polyphenolic compounds of the phytochemical adsorption layer (104) through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between amine and hydroxyl functional groups to constitute a cross-linked protective film (108) resistant to ionic penetration under acidic conditions. Upon disruption of the cross-linked protective film (108) the retained inhibitor compounds desorb from the fungal chitosan biopolymer layer (106) and re-adsorb onto a newly exposed surface of the metal substrate (108) autonomously.
