Abstract: A computer-implemented cloud gaming monitoring process, including: receiving mirrored data packets of general network traffic of a communications network, the data packets including data packets of one or more cloud gaming platforms, and other data packets unrelated to cloud gaming platforms; processing the received data packets to detect a cloud gaming session of a cloud gaming platform and a network client by identifying a subset of the received data packets as constituting network flows of a platform session of the cloud gaming platform and the network client; processing network flows of the network client to detect a gameplay session of the cloud gaming platform by identifying at least one of the network flows as being a gameplay management flow of the cloud gaming platform; determining network client and gaming server IP addresses of the gameplay management flow; using the network client and gaming server IP addresses to identify subsequent network flows as being gameplay session flows of the gameplay session; processing the identified gameplay session flows to determine metadata and generate volumetric metrics of the gameplay session flows; processing the metadata and volumetric metrics of the gameplay session flows to identify one of the gameplay session flows as being a downstream video flow or a gameplay management flow; and processing at least one of the downstream video flow and the gameplay management flow of the gaming session to generate one or more quality-of- experience (QoE) metrics for the game and network user.
