Abstract: [069] The present invention discloses a chitosan nanoparticle composition loaded with grape seed extract and sapota seed extract and a process for preparation thereof. The composition comprises chitosan, grape seed extract obtained from Vitis vinifera seeds, sapota seed extract obtained from Manilkara zapota seeds, sodium tripolyphosphate and an aqueous acidic medium, wherein the extracts are encapsulated or associated within an ionically cross-linked chitosan nanoparticle matrix. The extracts are preferably prepared by alcoholic hot maceration, followed by filtration, solvent removal and drying. The nanoparticles are prepared by dissolving chitosan in dilute acetic acid, adding the seed extracts, and introducing sodium tripolyphosphate under stirring or sonication to form a stable cationic nanoparticulate suspension. The composition preserves functional groups of chitosan and phytoconstituents, exhibits positive zeta potential, and demonstrates antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and concentration-dependent cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells. The invention provides a biodegradable natural-product nanocarrier system suitable for antioxidant, antibacterial, nutraceutical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical research and biomedical screening applications.
