Abstract: ABSTRACT CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF NIV2SE4 NANOMATERIAL FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL PHOTOVOLTAIC APPLICATION The present invention discloses a hydrothermal synthesis method for fabricating nickel vanadium selenide (NiV2Se4) nanomaterials and their application as photoactive electrodes in electrochemical photovoltaic (ECPV) cells. The synthesis employs nickel chloride, ammonium metavanadate, tartaric acid, and selenium dioxide as precursors subjected to hydrothermal treatment at 180 degrees Celsius for 18 hours. The resulting NiV2Se4 nanomaterial exhibits a crystalline monoclinic phase with diamond- shaped microstructures and nanoflake morphology. The material possesses an optical band gap of 1.85 eV enabling visible-light absorption. An ECPV cell fabricated using the NiV2Se4 electrode demonstrates p-type semiconducting behaviour, a flat-band potential of -0.493 V versus SCE, and reduced charge-transfer resistance under illumination, yielding a power conversion efficiency of 0.471 percent and a short-circuit current density of 0.86 mA per square centimetre.
