MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641100119 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 19, 2026, for Chalconoid-Based Siddha Capsule Formulation For The Treatment Of Gastric Ulcers.

Inventors include Dr. Vijayakumar Rajendran; Dr. Veeraraghavan Vishnu Priya; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a Siddha-based capsule formulation comprising chalconoid compounds derived from medicinal plants for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers. Chalconoids, a subclass of flavonoids, exhibit potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and gastroprotective properties. In particular, these compounds inhibit the GMHB enzyme of Helicobacter pylori, a critical target in bacterial lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis, thereby reducing bacterial colonization and persistence in the gastric mucosa. The invention provides a novel therapeutic approach that integrates traditional Siddha principles with modern pharmacological insights, offering a natural alternative to conventional ulcer therapies. The capsule formulation is designed to deliver standardized chalconoid extracts in a stable, patient-friendly dosage form. The invention encompasses pharmaceutical compositions wherein chalconoids are combined with pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, gastroresistant coatings, and optional synergistic herbal components to enhance bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. The capsule ensures controlled release in the gastric environment, maximizing local activity against H. pylori while minimizing systemic side effects. Applications of the invention extend to the treatment of gastric ulcers, gastritis, dyspepsia, and related gastrointestinal disorders. The chalconoid capsule may also serve as an adjunct to conventional antibiotic regimens, reducing drug resistance and recurrence rates. Furthermore, the invention aligns with the growing demand for plant-based therapeutics and supports the modernization of Siddha medicine by translating traditional knowledge into standardized, patentable formulations. In summary, the invention provides a chalconoid-based Siddha capsule with demonstrated anti-H. pylori activity and gastroprotective benefits, representing a safe, effective, and sustainable solution for ulcer management.
