MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541062217 A) filed by Ecole Centrale School Of Engineering, Mahindra University on June 30, 2025, for Cellulose Composite-Based Transparent Thin Sheets For Multifunctional Flexible Electronics.

Inventors include Trishala Desai; and Dr. Chitra Gurnani.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: CELLULOSE COMPOSITE-BASED TRANSPARENT THIN SHEETS FOR MULTIFUNCTIONAL FLEXIBLE ELECTRONICS The present disclosure relates to a multifunctional cellulose–MXene composite film platform for flexible sensing, memristive memory, and self-powered energy harvesting, a process for preparation thereof, and devices fabricated therefrom. The cellulose–MXene composite film comprises a regenerated cellulose matrix and MXene nanosheets dispersed and/or intercalated therein, wherein the film is free-standing, porous, flexible, lightweight, and electrically active. The process comprises dissolving cellulose in an aqueous alkali–urea solvent system, incorporating MXene nanosheets into the cellulose solution, crosslinking the resulting mixture to form a hydrogel, swelling the hydrogel in water, and freeze-drying the hydrogel to obtain the porous composite film. The cellulose–MXene composite film is configured for use as an active layer in pressure sensors, tactile sensors, physiological and respiration monitoring devices, self-powered nanogenerators, and flexible resistive switching memory devices. The composite film exhibits enhanced dielectric behaviour, interfacial polarization, compressibility, flexibility, and electromechanical responsiveness due to synergistic interactions between cellulose and MXene. The present disclosure further provides an integrated self-powered multifunctional electronic system comprising a cellulose-MXene composite film-based nanogenerator electrically coupled to a sensing device and/or a memristive device. The invention is useful in wearable electronics, healthcare monitoring, bioelectronics, electronic skin, neuromorphic systems, and sustainable flexible electronic applications.
