Inventors include Dr. S. P. Suriyaraj; Dr. S. Charulatha; and Deekshaya J.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellulose-based hybrid biopolymer composite hemostatic hydrogel spray for rapid bleeding control. The formulation comprises sodium alginate, carboxymethyl cellulose, calcium chloride, Vitamin K and Aloe vera. Sodium alginate forms a calcium-crosslinked hydrogel matrix with water absorption capability, while carboxymethyl cellulose provides hydrophilicity and viscosity. Vitamin K contributes to the coagulation process and Aloe vera provides moisture retention and wound-care functionality. The developed formulation was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and viscosity analysis. In vitro evaluation demonstrated water absorption capability, blood coagulation activity and low hemolysis. Antibacterial activity was also observed against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus. The sprayable nature of the formulation enables application over irregularly shaped wounds and provides a protective hydrogel layer at the bleeding site. The invention therefore provides a natural biopolymer-based approach for rapid hemostasis and wound-care applications.
