The system (100) comprises: an electrospray apparatus configured to receive a fluid sample and generate a stream of droplets (116), the fluid sample comprising biological material suspended in a fluid; a biological identification apparatus configured to classify each of the droplets in the stream (116) based on the biological material contained within each droplet; a plurality of collection receptacles (140) configured to receive the stream of droplets (116); a selection apparatus (130) configured to vary which collection receptacle of the plurality of collection receptacles (140) receives the stream of droplets (116); and a controller (126) configured to operate the selection apparatus (130) such that each droplet of the stream (116) is received by one of the collection receptacles (140) based on the classification determined by the biological identification apparatus.
