Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is a cavity-enhanced LoRa gateway communication system (100), the system (100) comprises at least one transmitter node (102) configured to transmit LoRa communication signals, a gateway receiver (104) configured to receive the transmitted LoRa communication signals, a cavity-enhanced antenna assembly (106) configured to enhance reception of LoRa communication signals, wherein the cavity-enhanced antenna assembly (106) further comprises a dielectric substrate (108) having a ground-plane to establish a reference ground for the cavity-enhanced antenna assembly (106), an inset-fed microstrip patch radiator (110) configured to radiate and receive LoRa communication signals, a superstrate structure (112) configured to electromagnetically interact with the inset-fed microstrip patch radiator (110), a plurality of conductive unit cells (114) configured to facilitate electromagnetic coupling with the inset-fed microstrip patch radiator (110), at least one support structure (116) configured to maintain the predetermined cavity spacing between the inset-fed microstrip patch radiator (110) and the superstrate structure (112).
