The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a network-pharmacology-based approach for evaluating the potential therapeutic relevance of caulerpin, a marine bis-indole alkaloid, in breast cancer. The method comprises retrieval of the molecular structure of caulerpin, physicochemical and pharmacokinetic assessment, ligand-based target prediction, retrieval of breast-cancer-associated genes, identification of common targets, protein-protein interaction analysis, Gene Ontology and KEGG pathway enrichment, and molecular docking using AutoDock Vina. Nine common targets were identified, including EGFR, BRAF, SRC, KDR and ESR2. EGFR, SRC and BRAF demonstrated prominent connectivity within the predicted protein-protein interaction network. Enrichment analysis associated the targets with protein phosphorylation, cell proliferation, angiogenesis and growth-factor response, and with PI3K-Akt, RAS/MAPK, cancer-related and VEGF signalling pathways. Molecular docking provided computational structural support for predicted interactions between caulerpin and prioritized target proteins. The invention therefore provides a computationally supported multi-target hypothesis for the further investigation of caulerpin in breast cancer and provides molecular targets and signalling pathways for subsequent experimental validation.
