Abstract: ABSTRACT A catheter (100) for treating a calcified lesion within a vessel includes an elongate shaft (102) having a proximal end and a distal end. A frame (106) at the distal end of the elongate shaft (102) is radially expandable from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration. A conduit (108) is disposed in a continuous curvilinear arrangement along the frame (106), the conduit (108) having a fluid lumen configured to receive a fluid medium. A plurality of electroacoustic emitters (110) mounted on electrical cables disposed within the conduit (108) are configured to generate acoustic shockwaves within the fluid medium. The frame (106) forms an open framework permitting continuous blood flow through the vessel during operation of the plurality of electroacoustic emitters (110), and the acoustic shockwaves fracture calcium deposits of the calcified lesion through fluid-mediated energy transmission.
