Abstract: The present invention relates to a catalytic composition for the selective oligomerisation of ethylene, in particular for the the tetramerisation of ethylene into 1-octene, wherein the catalytic composition comprises: - a chromium-based metal precursor; - a heteroatomic ligand; - methylaluminoxane supported on an inorganic support; - an additive in the form of an aluminium-based compound; wherein the composition has a molar ratio of the aluminium of the methylaluminoxane supported on an inorganic support to the chromium of the metal precursor of greater than 250, and a molar ratio of the aluminium of the additive to the chromium of the metal precursor of greater than 200.
