Abstract: The Catalyst-Coated Thin Film Continuous Flow Photoreactor presents a novel approach to wastewater treatment, facilitating continuous thin liquid film flow down a vertical step surface to optimize contact with photo catalysts. This innovative system enhances the degradation of organic pollutants through effective catalyst- wastewater interaction, employing photo catalysts like titanium dioxide (TiO2) to remove hazardous substances from wastewater. Activated by ultraviolet (UV) light and solar energy, the photo catalytic degradation process breaks down complex organic compounds into simpler, less harmful substances. The reactor, consisting of a pump, spillway, storage tank, and staircase-coated TiO2 catalyst, utilizes sunlight for pollutant degradation. A thin catalyst film, applied through diverse coating methods, covers the reactor's steps, embodying the "falling film flow" concept with alternating horizontal and vertical flows. The eight-step staircase design boosts catalyst surface area and enhances waste solution oxygenation, with the reactor's geometry facilitating significant liquid-air exchange to increase oxygen transfer in water. Assuming the fluid to be Newtonian with constant physical properties, this study underscores the falling film step reactor's potential for efficient wastewater treatment via innovative design and photocatalytic processes, promoting environmental sustainability.
