Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is a cassette thermal storage control system for regulated charging and discharge of a thermal storage medium. The system includes an insulated storage vessel defining separated flow channels between a vessel inlet side and a vessel outlet side. Heat-storage cassettes are disposed along the separated flow channels and expose heat-transfer surfaces to working fluid. An inlet manifold is connected to the separated flow channels through separately controllable inlet valves, and an outlet manifold receives discharged working fluid. A bypass passage connects the inlet manifold and outlet manifold to divert a portion of working fluid around the heat-storage cassettes. Temperature sensors sense inlet temperature, outlet temperature and temperature distribution across cassette regions, and a flow sensor measures circulated fluid volume. A reinforcement learning controller changes valve states and bypass mixing within stored temperature, flow and pressure limits based on sensed conditions, demand state and earlier valve-control outcomes.
