MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641084768 A) filed by Dr. A. Malar Retna on July 10, 2026, for Casein Palm Fruit Nanocomposite For Food Packaging.

Inventors include D. Saranya; Dr. A. Malar Retna; R. Joshua Samuel; and Robin Kumar Samuel.

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: This invention discloses the green synthesis and comprehensive characterization of spherical casein nanocomposites functionalized with natural Palm Fruit Extract. The primary objective was to develop a bio-based system for active food packaging, effectively replacing synthetic lipid stabilizers such as stearic acid and palmitic acid. The structural and chemical integrity of the nanocomposites was validated through FTIR analysis, confirming successful encapsulation, while SEM imaging revealed a stable spherical morphology. TGA/DTA profiling demonstrated enhanced thermal stability, making the formulation resilient up to 200°C. Functionally, the nanocomposites exhibited potent antioxidant activity ( 85%) and significant antibacterial efficacy (10-18 mm zone of inhibition) against foodbome pathogens. Furthermore, soil burial studies confirmed 100% biodegradability within 60 days, offering a sustainable, non-toxic alternative to conventional synthetic food wraps.
