Abstract: ABSTRACT CARDBOARD PRODUCTION FROM CONTAMINATED PLANT BIOMASS OF CONSTRUCTED WETLAND-MICROBIAL FUEL CELL SYSTEMS A process for sustainable cardboard production from contaminated plant biomass (100) comprises constructing a Constructed Wetland-Microbial Fuel Cell (CW-MFC) system (102) using a container filled with pebbles, cocopeat, and iron scraps as filler matrices, with carbon felt electrodes connected through an external resistance, and planting an invasive terrestrial plant species (104). Synthetic rice mill wastewater is fed into the CW-MFC system (106), and contaminated dead plant biomass is harvested after a treatment cycle (108). The harvested biomass is rinsed and stems are dried (110). The dried stems are cooked with sodium hydroxide in a closed autoclave krafting process (112), wherein the stems are placed in a separate inner vessel inside an autoclave cooker without direct contact with an outer chamber. The pulp is washed, sodium bicarbonate and diluted and soluble starch are added, and the pulp is beaten and formed into sheets to yield cardboard (114, 116).
