Abstract: The present invention discloses a novel, cost-effective, and scalable method for synthesizing Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) with applications in lubrication and solar energy conversion. The CQDs are produced via a hydrothermal process using organic precursors with hydroxyl (-OH) groups, followed by acidification and thermal treatment. The synthesized CQDs, with a size range of 2-5 nm, exhibit strong photoluminescence, high dispersion stability, and superior tribological properties. CQDs are incorporated into base lubricants to form nanolubricants, which reduce the coefficient of friction (CoF) by 48-50%, improving machinery efficiency. Additionally, CQDs are dispersed in organic solvents and encapsulated in solar PV modules, enhancing photon down-conversion and increasing solar efficiency. The invention provides an eco-friendly alternative to conventional CQD synthesis, ensuring high performance, chemical stability, and industrial scalability across automotive, renewable energy, and nanotechnology sectors.
