Abstract: The invention presents a technique for utilising carbon dots (CDs) as a long-lasting and sustainable colorant for dyeing textile materials. CDs can be used as a sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes due to their environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and ease of synthesis. In this approach, a fabric or cloth is soaked in a dispersion of carbon dots in aqueous medium to impart a teal blue colour to the textile fibres upon absorption, The CDs were prepared using a mixture of citric acid and urea as precursor. Before dying, the fabric is pretreated with a chitosan solution, a naturally occurring polymeric binder, leading to the formation of a thin, continuous layer over the fibres, which enhances the strong electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions between the CDs and cellulose, thereby improving the binding of CDs to the fibre matrix, In order to enhance the binding further; the cloth is dried and cured at a regulated temperature after dyeing. The fabric was characterised using FTIR analysis to ensure the presence of carbon dots on the textile fibres. The resulting dyed fabric demonstrates the potential of carbon dots as a practical, sustainable alternative to conventional textile dyes, exhibiting consistent colours with negligible fading even after multiple washing cycles,
