MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611092499 A) filed by Chandigarh University on July 30, 2026, for Cadmium (cd)–chromium (cr) Embedded Cellulose Hybrid Nanocomposite Formulation, Method Of Preparation And Application Thereof.

Inventors include Shobhit Sharma; Dr. Ruchi Bharti; and Prof. Dr Renu Sharma.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a green-engineered Cd–Cr embedded cellulose hybrid nanocomposite formulation and a sustainable method for preparing the same. The formulation comprises Cd–Cr nanostructures uniformly embedded within a cellulose matrix using aqueous kinnow (Citrus reticulata) seed extract as a natural reducing, capping, and stabilizing agent. The preparation method includes extraction of phytochemicals from kinnow seeds, green synthesis of Cd–Cr nanostructures, dissolution of microcrystalline cellulose in a sodium hydroxide–urea solvent system, incorporation of the nanostructures into the cellulose matrix through stirring and ultrasonication, followed by aging, centrifugation, washing, and drying to obtain the hybrid nanocomposite. The synthesized nanocomposite exhibited adsorption efficiencies of about 93% using 8 mg adsorbent and about 96% at pH 12 for linagliptin (pharmaceutical contaminant) removal, together with strong DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging antioxidant activity, making it suitable for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.
