MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611091841 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Mandi on July 29, 2026, for Buransh Flower Extract-Based Multifunctional Bilayer Dressing For Enhanced Wound Healing With Monitoring, And Method Thereof.

Inventors include Dimpy Bhardwaj; and Garima Agrawal.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a multifunctional bilayer wound dressing, and a method of its production. The method comprises steps of preparing a first precursor solution (100) by mixing 10.67 wt% polycaprolactone (PCL) dissolved in chloroform with 4 wt% 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride dissolved in dimethylformamide, followed by electrospinning to form a nanofibrous first layer (102). A second precursor solution (200) is prepared by dissolving 6.25 wt% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and 6.25 wt% hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) in distilled water (DI) and incorporating 62.5 v% buransh (Rhododendron arboreum) flower extract and 12.5 v% methanolic solution of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDC). The second precursor solution (200) is cast onto the nanofibrous first layer (102) and subjected to 3 cycles of freeze-thaw to form a physically cross-linked hydrogel second layer (202), thereby producing a multifunctional bilayer wound dressing (300). The nanofibrous-hydrogel composite provides enhanced mechanical integrity, moisture retention, antioxidant, antibacterial, and tissue regenerative properties while enabling real-time visual monitoring of wound status through a pH-responsive colorimetric indication, thereby promoting accelerated wound healing and offering a promising smart wound care solution.
