Abstract: A brake assembly for an electric vehicle includes a brake lever, a master cylinder configured to actuate a mechanical braking system, and a plunger operably connected to the master cylinder and positioned to transmit force from the brake lever to the master cylinder. A slot is formed within the brake lever at an interface between the brake lever and the plunger. The slot defines a cavity configured to receive a portion of the plunger and to provide a free space permitting an initial movement of the brake lever relative to the plunger without actuating the master cylinder. A wall of the slot is positioned to contact the plunger after the brake lever moves beyond the initial movement to transmit force to the plunger and actuate the master cylinder.
