MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641105636 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on September 02, 2026, for Bracket-Arch Wire Friction Testing Device.

Inventors include K. Kalyan; Dr. M. Abdullah; Dr. N. Shwetha; and Dr Ramya Mohan.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Friction between the orthodontic bracket and the archwire is one important factor in the efficiency and biomechanism of tooth movement. Excessive friction may prolong the duration of the orthodontic treatment and reduce the efficiency of the applied forces. Therefore, the measurement and analysis of bracket-archwire friction are important to enhance the efficiency of the orthodontic treatment. The aim of the present project is to design and develop a Bracket-Archwire Friction Testing Device using a microcontroller-based system. In the proposed device, an Arduino Nano microcontroller is used to control the system. An HX711 load cell amplifier is used to measure the friction between the bracket and the archwire. A DC Motor is used to simulate the motion between the bracket and the archwire. The frictional forces between the bracket and the archwire are displayed using an LCD screen. In the proposed device, a battery pack is used to power the device. The proposed device is a cost-effective, accurate, and compact device for evaluating the frictional characteristics between the bracket and the archwire
