Abstract: This application relates to a blue-shade red effect pigment, comprising a blend of (a) an Intermediate 1 comprising optionally passivated metallic flakes coated with silica and iron oxide; and (b) an Intermediate 2 comprising synthetic or natural mica flakes coated with a first layer of Fe2O3 or TiO2; a second layer of SiO2; and a third layer of Fe2O3 or TiO2. The disclosed pigment has better coloristic performance than known blue-shade red effect pigments.
