MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631112697 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Agartala; and Iit Guwahati Technology Innovation And Development Foundation Tih Division on September 20, 2026, for Blockchain-Assisted Secure Communication And Decentralized Data Storage For Underwater Internet Of Things.
Inventors include Suyel Namasudra; Vidyut Dey; Suhadrita Roy; and Sagnik Datta.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The invention provides a blockchain-assisted system (100) for secure communication and decentralized storage of underwater data. Autonomous underwater vehicles (112) collect data through sensors (114, 116, 118) and a camera (120), encrypt it using an AES module (126), protect the session key by RSA encryption and transmit the protected tuple to a surface station (140). A cryptographic engine (146) recovers the data, generates a timestamp-dependent DNA key, applies secondary DNA- based encryption and forms an encrypted payload (164). An IPFS interface (150) stores the payload in an IPFS network (160) and receives a content identifier (166). A smart contract (174) records the content identifier and metadata in a permissioned blockchain network (170). A regulatory authority (180) manages keys, credentials and authorization and controls retrieval and decryption for an authorized user (190), thereby providing confidentiality, integrity, traceability, scalable storage and reduced on-chain overhead.
