Abstract: Blind curve vehicle detection and early warning system ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a smart collision warning system for preventing head-on collisions at blind curves, hairpin bends, hilly roads, tunnels, narrow lanes and other restricted-visibility locations. The system detects opposing vehicles using vehicle sensors, GPS, radar, cameras and vehicle-to-vehicle or vehicle-to- infrastructure communication. Road geometry, vehicle speed, relative distance, travel direction and estimated encounter time are processed to classify traffic conditions into safe, caution and high-risk states. A temporary traffic status associated with the blind zone is communicated to subsequently approaching vehicles. The system provides advance visual, audio, vibration and head-up display warnings before an opposing vehicle becomes visible, thereby reducing collision risk and sudden braking.
