Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for obtaining a fragrance composition, to a fragrance composition obtained or obtainable by such a method and to a perfumed product, preferably a pharmaceutical preparation, cosmetic preparation or preparation serving for nutrition or pleasure comprising such a fragrance composition. The method for obtaining a fragrance composition comprises the steps of i) providing a plant extract comprising one or more fragrance(s), wherein said fragrance(s) in the plant extract provided in step i) are selected from the group consisting of alcohols, wherein the plant extract is an essential oil or an absolute, ii) providing an esterase, iii) providing an ester, iv) mixing the plant extract provided in step i) with the esterase provided in step ii) and the ester provided in step iii) to obtain a reaction mixture and reacting the fragrance(s) in the reaction mixture under conditions allowing a transesterification of the carboxylic acid moiety of the ester provided in step iii) to the fragrance(s), to obtain a mixture comprising an esterified fragrance, v) optionally: drying the mixture comprising an esterified fragrance obtained in step iv) to obtain the fragrance composition.
