Abstract: TITLE: BIOPOLYMER-BASED MOISTURE-RESPONSIVE LEAK-PROOF GASKET SYSTEM FOR PORTABLE FOOD CONTAINERS APPLICANT: MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a sealing system for portable food containers, and more particularly to a biopolymer-based gasket providing leak-proof sealing during storage and transportation of hot and semi-liquid food. The system comprises a container body having an upper rim, a lid having a peripheral groove, and a biopolymer gasket retained within the peripheral groove by a mechanical fitting. Upon closure of the lid, the gasket is compressed against the upper rim to form a sealing barrier. During storage of hot or semi-liquid food, steam and moisture interact with the biopolymer matrix, causing controlled swelling of the gasket, thereby increasing contact pressure between the lid and upper rim and minimizing leakage. The gasket may comprise surface micro-texturing or ridges for improved sealing performance. The moisture-responsive sealing action maintains effective contact during storage and transportation while reducing leakage from the container. The system is suitable for lunch, tiffin, and food storage containers.
