MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110294 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 14, 2026, for Biomimetic Resonant Leaf Sensor With Multi-Modal Resonance Fingerprinting For Leaf Wetness History Reconstruction And Disease Risk Prediction.

Inventors include Dr. Ashish P; Shalini B; and Likitha P.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a Biomimetic Resonant Artificial Leaf (BRAL) sensing architecture for passive estimation of Leaf Wetness Duration (LWD) and early fungal disease risk prediction in crop cultivation. The invention comprises a flexible leaf-shaped resonant membrane coupled to a piezoelectric transducer, wherein moisture accumulation and evaporation alter mass and mechanical damping, thereby modifying resonance frequency, Q-factor, damping coefficient, and ring-down time. A Multi-Modal Resonance Fingerprint (MMRF) is generated from the resonance characteristics to characterize moisture evolution including droplet nucleation, coalescence, water-film formation, and evaporation. Temporal tracking of the MMRF reconstructs moisture history and determines LWD, moisture accumulation rate, Condensation Persistence Index (CPI), and drying rate. The moisture history is combined with temperature and relative humidity and evaluated using pathogen infection models to generate a Disease Risk Index (DRI). The invention enables low-power, electrode-free moisture-history monitoring and early disease-risk assessment before visible symptoms appear. Date:
