MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075000 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for Biomass-Derived Sugar-Based Ionic Liquid Composition And Method For Enhancing Seed Germination.

Inventors include Rajasekhara Reddy Sabbasani; Jagan Mohan Obbineni; Krishnaraj P.; Ravindran Krishnasamy; Ajay S.; and Jyothylakshmi Jayakumar.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments herein provide a biomass-derived agricultural composition for enhancing seed germination and seedling growth. The composition includes one or more sugar-based ionic liquids derived from carbohydrate with biomass feedstock using chemical modification of a sugar precursor, and an agriculturally acceptable carrier, diluent, solvent, dispersing medium, or combination thereof. The composition includes one or more sugar-based ionic liquids having a chemically modified carbohydrate-derived ionic structure with one or more functionalized sugar moieties associated with an organic ionic group. The composition is capable of enhancing one or more agronomic or physiological characteristics selected from seed germination rate, seedling vigor index, shoot elongation, root growth, fresh biomass, dry biomass, and relative water content in treated plants as compared to untreated controls.
