Abstract: The present invention relates to a biologically enhanced biodegradable leaf-based plate and a process for preparation thereof. The process comprises collecting leaves of Butea monosperma and Musa, obtaining leaf-associated microbial samples from the leaves, culturing the microbial samples on a suitable microbiological growth medium to obtain microbial isolates, screening the microbial isolates for antimicrobial activity and biodegradation-promoting activity, and selecting at least one microbial isolate exhibiting said activities. The selected microbial isolate is retained in, incorporated into, or applied onto a leaf matrix comprising leaves of Butea monosperma and Musa to prepare the biodegradable leaf-based plate. The resulting plate exhibits improved antimicrobial performance and accelerated biodegradation as compared to an untreated leaf-based plate. The invention provides an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and biologically enhanced alternative to plastic-based disposable plates while reducing dependence on synthetic antimicrobial coatings, chemical preservatives, and plastic- based polymeric materials.
