Abstract: Abstract The present invention discloses a novel lactoferrin-based antimicrobial dental varnish for the prevention of dental biofilm formation. The varnish comprises lactoferrin incorporated into a chitosan-based polymeric matrix along with ethyl cellulose, xylitol, calcium chloride, and peppermint oil to enhance antimicrobial efficacy, adhesion, and patient acceptability. Upon application, the varnish forms a uniform, adherent film on the tooth surface, enabling controlled release oflactoferrin and prolonged inhibition ofbiofilm-forming oral microorganisms.
