The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: Biodegradable Smart Packaging with Real-Time Freshness Indicator and Digital Integration This invention describes a biodegradable smart food packaging designed to provide real-time monitoring of food freshness. The packaging features a color-changing freshness indicator that utilizes reactive materials sensitive to spoilage-related gases, transitioning through green, yellow, and red to visually indicate food quality. A kinetic activation mechanism enables real-time freshness updates by exposing reactive materials to gases upon user-initiated shaking or transit vibrations, eliminating the need for external power. A thermo-responsive layer enhances accuracy by detecting unsafe temperature exposures and adjusting the indicator's reactivity accordingly. The packaging integrates a near-field communication (NFC) tag for accessing detailed product information, including expiration dates and storage guidelines, via compatible devices. Optional augmented reality (AR) features offer interactive overlays for real-time freshness updates and usage instructions. Constructed from biodegradable materials, the packaging ensures environmental sustainability while reducing food waste and enhancing consumer trust. It is suitable for diverse applications across the food packaging industry.
